Sock Care 101: How to Wash & Store Your Socks for Longevity

Keep Your Favourite Pairs Looking (and Feeling) Fresh

So you’ve found the perfect socks, they fit like a dream, feel amazing, and finish your outfit just right. Now let’s make sure they stay that way!

Wash Like a Pro

Proper washing extends your socks’ lifespan and keeps them looking fresh.

Here’s how:

  • Turn them inside out. This protects the outer fabric and helps clean the parts that matter most (like the soles).
  • Use cold water. It’s gentler on fabric, helps preserve colour, and saves energy.
  • Mild detergent only. Harsh formulas can break down elastics and fade dyes.
  • Use a mesh laundry bag. These bags serve as a protective shield for items more prone to damage the washing machine.
  • Hand wash it. Sometimes it's best to roll up your sleeves, especially for delicate materials, heavy embellishment or with intricate designs.

Drying Dos & Don’ts

  • Air dry whenever possible. The heat from dryers can be brutal on fibres and elasticity.
  • Avoid hanging by the cuff. Instead, lay socks flat or fold gently over a rack.
  • Avoid direct sunlight. Dry your socks indoors or in shaded areas to prevent fading and UV damage, which can weaken the fabric and shorten their lifespan.

Storing Like a Stylist

  • Skip the sock ball. Rolling socks into tight balls stretches them out.
  • Fold or tuck. Flat folds or gentle rolls keep them in shape and ready to wear.
  • Organise by type. Keep crews, sheers, and statement styles separate for easy access.
  • Bling Meets Boundaries. Heavily embellished sections can catch on delicate fibres and cause pulls or snags. To keep all your pairs looking their best, store embellished socks away from more delicate materials.

Taking care of your socks is an act of self care. Plus, you’ll look great doing it. Caring for your socks not only keeps them looking great, it keeps them comfy and supportive, too.

A little care goes a long way!

XOXO
